Ashley Brown
Head of School
BASIS Peoria

Ashley Brown is the Head of School for BASIS Peoria. She joined BASIS Schools in 2010 as an upper school economics teacher at BASIS Scottsdale and helped to open BASIS Peoria in 2011. Ashley comes to BASIS after spending three years as a Program Officer at Liberty Fund, a private operating education foundation based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ashley worked with the Liberty Fund conference program on a wide range of topics implicating individual liberty and responsibility, including philosophy, history, economics, law, political theory and fine arts. Prior to her tenure with Liberty Fund, Ashley served as the Program Director for the Arizona Council on Economic Education. Ashley obtained her Bachelors of Arts in Sculpting from Central Michigan University and her Masters of Arts in Economics from the University of Delaware. A native of Michigan, Ashley and her family now live in Central Phoenix.

Mark Allen
Head of Operations
BASIS Peoria

In 2011-2012 Mark Allen was an Assistant to the Head of School at BASIS Peoria and the Communications and Development Director. A native of Berkeley, Mark has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Stanford University and an executive MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Prior to joining BASIS, Mark had a 25-year career in human resources management and holds certifications as a senior and global professional in human resources. He has been graduate and undergraduate adjunct faculty in the business schools for several colleges during the past 15 years. His wife, Bonnie, runs two schools in India and works at BASIS Phoenix.

Gwen Ventimiglia
Lower School Director

Gwen Ventimiglia joined BASIS Peoria as a Lower School English teacher in 2012. Prior to her appointment as an English teacher at BASIS Peoria, Ms. Ventimiglia worked as office manager for an Arizona law firm where she was responsible for the operation and administration of the firm. She holds an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Illinois and master’s degree in education from Arizona State University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Ms. Ventimiglia is excited to move into the position of Lower School Director where she will have the opportunity to work closely with the dedicated staff and faculty to uphold BASIS’ exceptional education model.



Shawn Cox Upper School Director
BASIS Peoria

Shawn is joining us for her third year at BASIS and her first year as our Upper School Director. Shawn joined BASIS Peoria in its inaugural year during which time she taught 6th grade U.S. History, served as the Cross Country Coach and National Honor Society Advisor. During the 2012-2013 school year she worked as the College Counselor and Student Support Coordinator. Shawn claims both the East and West Coast as home, as she was born and raised in Northern Florida but moved to Northern California as a Senior in high school. She earned her bachelor’s degree in International Comparative Politics from The American University of Paris and her MBA in International Business from Argosy University. Upon moving to Arizona with her husband for his medical school in 2009, Shawn realized her true passion for education and earned her Masters of Education in Elementary Education from Arizona State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Before teaching at BASIS Peoria, she taught 7th and 8th grade Language Arts in the Osborn School District in Central Phoenix. Shawn holds an Arizona Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education and Middle Grades Language Arts/Reading, as well as an Endorsement in Structured English Immersion. In her spare time, Shawn loves to run, swim, play the piano, cook and spend time her husband. Shawn has completed five marathons, including the Boston Marathon in April 2013, and looks forward to running many more in the future. Shawn is thrilled to now serve BASIS Peoria as the Upper School Director.


Eric Throne
College Counselor
BASIS Peoria

For his third year with BASIS, Eric fills the role of BASIS Peoria College Counselor in addition to teaching Algebra 2. Eric earned his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education from Huntington University (2007) Cum Laude where he was also an employed Math Tutor to college math students and Student Teacher. Eric honors and awards include: Member of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges: Exceptional Scholastic Performance and Community Service, Graduated Cum Laude. His hobbies and interests include hiking, golfing, and many other active sports.  Eric also enjoys a variety of genres of music (listening and playing); however, his favorite things involve quality time with his family.

Naomi McCavitt

Related Experience: For the last five years I have taught art as a faculty member in the Art Foundation Department at Virginia Commonwealth University.  I taught Drawing Studio and Surface Research, which is a fundamentals of design course.  In addition, I worked and continue to work as a designer for the World Art Group where I create original paintings for their Old World Line of Prints.  I have shown my work all over the country in galleries such as The Lab in San Francisco, Woman Made in Chicago, ADA and Glave Kocen in Richmond, VA.  I have organized many shows and events for myself as well as groups of students or peers and plan to continue to do so here in Phoenix.
Hobbies:  Art, education and the intersections of the two, (educational art, education as an art) are my career and my hobbies!  I also like doing yoga and I am a second hand store enthusiast.


Bryan Meyerowitz

Ricki Miller
